For database migrations, ensure that the source database remains in a consistent, writeable state until you are fully committed to the new environment. Document the rollback procedure in detail and rehearse it before the actual cutover.

 

Post-Migration Validation

After traffic switches to the cloud environment, validate aggressively. Synthetic monitoring tests should immediately verify that all critical user flows are working. Real-user monitoring should show that performance metrics match expectations. Error rates should remain at or below pre-migration baselines. Establish a war room for the hours following migration, with all key engineers monitoring dashboards and ready to respond to issues. Resist the temptation to declare success before you have collected sufficient data.
